Move over Euphoria, the Newest Facial Trend is Bejeweling

With NYFW wrapping up throughout the week, I would like to highlight one of my favorite shows from a lesser-known designer: Area.

Founded in New York in 2014, the line focuses on womenswear that represents a blank canvas and accessories that do all the talking. The two founders, Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Pansczczyk, have created a brand reminiscent of the loudness of the '80s while still artfully portraying the poise and elegance of the female form. Garments in the line often showcase minimalist silhouettes and instead use neon colors, iridescent finishings, and fun patterns to draw the eye. The brand has seen mass success, styling celebrities like Lucy Hale, Rihanna, Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and more.

Spring Resort 2020 was no different, with the base of Area’s collection showing androgynous blazers and pantsuits, shimmering hotpants, and commonly missing tops or bottoms (we love resort).

Again, the spotlight was on accessories, as the show opened with a sh*t ton of layered name-plate necklaces with the brand written in multiple languages. Things only progressed from there.

Three looks in and a chain beard YES A CHAIN BEARD was the show stealer, followed throughout by sequined eyebrows in the shapes of crowns, opulent septum piercings, bejeweled flower nipple covers in place of shirts and Betty Spaghetti hair, and headgear that looked as if gold was being rained down upon the catwalk.

Pushing out the craze of neon makeup and corner eye stickers that Euphoria ushered in, Area has set the new standard for accessorizing on the runway and makes me eager to see how local fashionistas will take it to the streets.
